How to Choose a Daycare in Baltimore, MD

Choosing a daycare is one of the most important decisions a parent can make. In Baltimore, MD, families have a variety of options — from large daycare centers to licensed Large Family Child Care Homes like Insight Kidz Care LLC. Here's what to look for:

1. Check for a Valid Maryland License Always confirm the provider holds a current Maryland child care license or registration. This ensures they meet state health, safety, and supervision standards. Insight Kidz Care holds Registration #263488.

2. Look for the EXCELS Quality Rating Maryland's EXCELS program rates childcare providers on a 1–5 scale based on curriculum, staff qualifications, and environment. A Level 3 or higher rating — like Insight Kidz Care's Level 3 rating — signals a strong commitment to quality.

3. Consider Group Size A smaller setting can mean more individual attention for your child. Licensed capacity varies by provider type, age mix, staffing, and state approval, so ask each program to explain its current license and ratios. A smaller setting can be especially helpful for children who thrive with consistent, personalized care.

4. Ask About the Daily Routine A structured but flexible daily routine helps children feel secure. Ask to see a sample daily schedule that includes meals, learning activities, outdoor play, and rest time.

5. Visit in Person Always schedule a tour before enrolling. Observe how the caregiver interacts with the children currently in care. Does the environment feel warm, safe, and organized?

6. Verify Subsidy Acceptance If you qualify for the Child Care Scholarship (CCS) program through Maryland DHS, confirm the provider accepts it. Insight Kidz Care is a DHS-recognized provider and accepts CCS.
